The thin vertical cursor is much the most mnemonic for
Insert. An insertion puts something between two
existing characters (or at the very end or beginning),
and that's what the in-between vertical suggests. Any
cursor that seems to pick out a single existing
character, like an underscore, suggests that something
is going to be done to that character, like Overwrite it.
