    Why not have *three* colors/appearances? One for
    functioning, available operations, one ("greyed out")
    for actions currently out of reach for a good reason,
    i.e. because they have no good use in the current
    situation, and a third for mere placeholders in the
    GUI, features not yet implemented or hooked up. That
    way people won't have to wonder. Or is "greyed out"
    so built into operating systems that it's hard to extend?
