Abiword has something what you need built in, its called Insert Symbol (i
think, i dont have a copy of abiword in front of me at this very minute).
Seeing as you are using windows i should tell you for your own
benifit there is a program included with windows
called Character Map (or at least that is what its called in English).
Its on the start menu under accessories, and if its not you can go to the
control panel (add/remove programs, on the windows setup tab) and add it
back in.
but its not cross platform or open source ...
