Let me be more specific. Now that I've changed the default file save to
.rtf, is there a similar way to change the default open format. It still
says .abw wheras all my documents are either .rtf or .txt. By
experimentation I tried DefaultOpenFormat following the same format as the
Default save command but it didn't work.
Now that I've confessed my transgression in experimentation, I can see why
you would discourage this type of behavior. I could really mess things up
and then flood you with even more questions.
While I'm at it, please allow me to use this forum to express my opinion on
priorities for Version 1. I know you have the bug votes and triage for
Bugzilla, but I've never been able to figure it out. And, not being a
developer, I can offer little expert assistance. But, speaking as a user. .
.
I would recommend that features be put on the back burner in favor of making
what you have work right. You have a great word processor, but a few small
items keep me from using it for any serious work. I list them in my sense
of importance. For what it's worth, I'm using an IBM Thinkpad 1410 with
Win98 and Abi 0.9.4.1.
1. Line spacing on page doesn't match what's on screen. For example, line
spacing on the page is more condensed than on screen. I'm an attorney and
it's essential that line spacing be right for the Courts who have little
elves with rulers making sure our briefs are properly formatted. With this
one bug fixed, I could use Abi for just about all of my work as I can work
around the other bugs.
2. Various paragraph formatting items, such as widow protection, keep with
next, etc. don't seem to be working. I use these features extensively in
the few styles I use.
3. Fine tune styles. You've got a real good start here but some features,
such as hot-key assignment don't seem to be working.
4. Implement some form of sections to allow different formatting such as
different page number styles for a table of contents as opposed to the body
of a document.
5. PLEASE, make the cursor follow the pageup/pagedn keys.
As you can probably tell, my writing needs are fairly simple. I use about
eight styles all the time and the most complex formatting I do is double
space a paragraph and throw in page numbers. Right now, Abi has all the
features I need to do nearly all my work. So, at least for this user, all
that is needed is to make it all work just right. Then, more features can
be added later to what will be a great foundation.
