Subject: Re: Again 0.7.12 on RedHat 6.2

Ok, here is what I found (I also have RH 6.2).
I installed helix gnome. Had to restart it numerous times, but
fortunately, it lets you use the RPMs you've already got from previous
attempts. After doing that, I was finally able to install
abisuite-0.7.12.i386.rpm
But when I tried installing
abisuite-gnome-0.7.12.i386.rpm
I still got various dependency errors (the gtk+ and glib dependency
errors were gone as a result of the helix gnome install):
pspell >= 0.11.1 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libaspell.so.7 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libgal.so.2 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libpspell_aspell.so.1 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libpspell-impl.so.3 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libpspell_ispell.so.0 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libpspell-modules.so.1 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libpspell.so.2 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
I finally got rid of the "spell" ones by installing aspell, pspell, and
something called pspell_ispell (all at once). I found these things on
rpmfind.net. libgal was annoying, since I already had libgal.so.3. I
made a symbolic link from libgal.so.2 -> libgal.so.3.0.1 (hoping that
it would be compatible) but I still had to use --nodeps to make it stop
complaining about the libgal.so.2 dependency. Initial testing implies
that this works.
(and the helix gnome does seem nicer than the stock RH 6.2 version).
...but the abisource web site needs some accurate "system requirements"
lists. There is a README which addresses dependencies, but it is out of
date (e.g. says you only need gtk+ 1.2.1 where it looks like the real
requirement is 1.2.7, and no mention of libgal and all the *spell* stuff).
