Maintaining nasty hacked code is harder than planning it carefully and
doing it right the first time (or at least doing well enough that it can
be fixed and extended as needs be).
Once you have implemented tables you start getting into other things like
frames and serious layout that really belongs in desktop publishing, so
its important to have a good solid base.
(the Mythical Man Month by Fredrick P Brooks is a book worth reading for
anyone with an interest in computers and or managing large scale projects)

tabs, but then if you switch between various versions of Word the
formatting can get messed up.
If only i had known about LaTeX, where what you see is REALLY what you
get.
