There are national and international (ISO) standards for letters. These have
many nice "features". E.g., when printed on standard paper sizes (ISO 216, A4,
A5 &c.) and folded (once or twice), the address of the recipient will fit
perfectly in the windows of standard sized windowed envelopes (C4, C5 &c.).
