Ubuntu Linux and AbiSource Relation

At this time, the latest version available directly from [Ubuntu] is an Ubuntu-modified 2.4.6. We are working to get AbiWord 2.6 in Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" - you can follow the progress here: [Launchpad bug for AbiWord 2.6 upload]

Installation of AbiSource Packages

Developer Ryan Pavlik maintains Ubuntu packages of AbiWord in his Personal Package Archive. To access them, add the appropriate source below to your repositories (easiest done using Synaptic Package Manager), refresh your packages, then install the "abiword" and optionally "abiword-plugins" and "abiword-plugins-gnome" packges.

  • Dapper (6.06 LTS): 
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/abiryan/ubuntu dapper main
  • Gutsy (7.10): 
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/abiryan/ubuntu gutsy main
  • Hardy (8.04 LTS - currently in beta): 
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/abiryan/ubuntu hardy main
