IntlFAQ: Setting the Default Language for Documents
- Directly editing the =AbiWord.Profile= file is not advised nor supported by the developers.*
Open the file =AbiWord.Profile= with a text editor (other than AbiWord -- attempting to use AbiWord will result in <np>AbiWord overwriting your changes when it exits). Within the _builtin_ Scheme you will see a line similar to DocumentLocale="en-US", copy this and place it in the _custom_ Scheme. Change the locale ("en-US") to the desired language-location, eg "es-ES" for spanish as spoken in Spain.
You should also install the matching dictionary (so you can spellcheck and avoid the warning dialog about not finding the xx-YY dictionary).
Assuming no other customizations the _custom_ Scheme will look similar to: <verbatim> <Scheme name="_custom_" DocumentLocale="es-ES" /> </verbatim>
The file AbiWord.Profile is usually in your Windows specific profile directory. Under Windows NT 4 (and 2000/XP if you upgraded from NT4) this is usually: =C:\WinNT\Profiles\= _username_ =\AbiSuite\AbiWord.Profile=
under Windows 2000/XP this will usually be:
=C:\Documents and Settings\= _username_ =\AbiSuite\AbiWord.Profile=
and under Windows 9x it will most likely be:
=C:\Windows\AbiSuite\AbiWord.Profile=
For Unix (or Linux) users, I believe it will be =~\AbiWord.Profile=
Note: If you later change default document locale back to the same value as in the _builtin_ Scheme, then upon opening & closing AbiWord, the _custom_ DocumentLocale setting may be removed (as it is redundant in this case).
