SourceGear Corporation Acquires Cyclic Software

Sponsors of AbiSource Project continue their involvement in Free Software Community

CHAMPAIGN, IL -- Wednesday, July 20th, 1999 -- SourceGear Corporation announced today its acquisition of Cyclic Software. Continuing forward with the current mission of Cyclic, the company intends to serve the Open Source community in the maintenance, development, and support of CVS, the most popular version control tool in the free software world.

About Cyclic Software

Cyclic Software provides technical support services and other resources for users of CVS. Cyclic's corporate customers include many organizations, large and small, who depend upon CVS for version control. In addition, the www.cyclic.com website serves as a central repository of CVS information and resources, including platform ports, new versions and complementary tools.

Jim Kingdon, previously the proprietor of Cyclic Software, commented:

"When I got a non-CVS job, I needed to figure out how to pass Cyclic on to someone who would be good for the future of CVS. A lot of people depend on CVS and I wanted to find someone who would maintain it at least as well as I had, hopefully better. After many discussions of how various free software projects are structured, including for-profit and non-profit options, I am very glad to be turning the reins over to SourceGear.

"Most successful free software projects benefit greatly from paid staff working on them, and I am glad to see that SourceGear plans to participate in all aspects of CVS - publicizing CVS, adding features, fixing bugs, working with external developers, and selling CVS-related products and services. I wasn't sure I'd find a company who wanted to take over CVS but I was tickled pink to find some who understands free software as well as SourceGear. I've been following SourceGear's AbiWord project for the last year or so, and have been very happy to see them doing a great job both technically and also in terms of working with the free software community."

About SourceGear Corporation

SourceGear is the sponsor of the development of AbiWord, an Open Source word processor. AbiWord is developed by a team of people which includes SourceGear staff working together with many individuals from the free software community.

SourceGear also sells a line of add-on tools for users of Microsoft Visual SourceSafe. Further information about this product line is available at www.sourceoffsite.com.

Eric W. Sink, President of SourceGear Corporation, said, "We're delighted to be adding the business operations of Cyclic Software to our company. We ourselves are active users of CVS, and it is important to us that it continue to grow and be maintained proactively. Our unique combination of experience gives us confidence that our involvement with CVS will be a positive step, both for CVS users in the free software community, as well as for existing customers of Cyclic Software."
