You need to install the -dev packages to compile from scratch, as you
appear to be attempting. I would recommend rather removing your current
version of AbiWord and installing the AutoPackage from www.abisource.com
if you can (if you are on x86), since it takes care of all dependency
and configuration problems for you. If you really want to compile
yourself, though, the -dev packages (should be in apt-get or Synaptic,
if not in CNR) will be needed. At least on Debian, a "sudo apt-get
build-dep abiword-gnome" (or just plain abiword) should get everything
you need to compile.
