printing problems

Hi. I'm having problems getting printed output to look decent.

I have a 20-ish page paper with lots of footnotes. The first several
pages seem to print fine. Then, somewhere around page 10, I start
getting gaps at the bottom of my printout. There's just empty whitespace
at the end of the text, above the footnotes, for no reason that I can
discern. The text continues on the next page as normal (though again
with excess whitespace at the bottom). On one page it leaves almost half
the page blank.

I seem to encounter the same behavior on Win32 and Ubuntu.

Any thoughts how to make it print properly? It's rather frustrating.
