Microsoft Word does not understand native Abiword documents (the ones with
the .abw extension) but if as you suggest you use "Save As" and
make sure to save as type: Microsoft Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format
(.rtf) then Microsoft Word should have no problem opening those documents.

Although abiword does not include an option to save as Word Perfect
format, Word Perfect should also be able to open those formats (.doc and
.rtf) perfectly well and without any problem.

Hope that helps (if it does please let us know and if you can please try
to help improve the FAQ by adding the information I have provided).

Sincerely
