The Glib/GSF based plugins are Not selected by default (typical)
installation. However, if one chooses Full install then both
the Glib/GSF based plugins and the Glib download are selected.
So one has to do a custom installation to get the plugins
and not select downloading glib (unless downloading glib archive
failed for some reason).
The idea is that those that care about installed size, download
size, or already have glib installed, do not need to download it
again. This includes people of prior versions of AbiWord, as
glib DLLs we use [provide] are updated on a as time permits
(ie not that often). However, those wanting the simplest
install either choose typical (and don't need/get the Glib/GSF
plugins) or full (and automatically try to download the glib
dlls). One can always file a RFE bug report to better this.
The dependency on Glib and its set of DLLs is why prior to
2.0.3 the couple of Glib/GSF based plugins were separate.
I think http://www.dropline.net/gtk/download.php is the
site I'm thinking of, which as far as I know has the only
user oriented install of Glib, which unfortunately is actually
a GTK install. Glib DLLs are not included, as it really
should be a separate installation. Although I don't believe
we support it at the moment, we should support Glib when
installed to somewhere like C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0
(as determined by approrpriate registry HKLM\GTK\2.0\ entries).
So, if the core glib DLLs as provided is not sufficient,
(and really the most I want to support Glib on Windows),
then users should be encouraged to install the GTK runtime
for Windows and file bugs in bugzilla if we fail to use it.
Then [plugin] developers who want to support/use glib can make
the changes necessary to ensure we [automatically] load DLLs
from their common installation location.
Alternatively, perhaps someone can encourage the GTK packagers
to provide a Glib only package as well, which we can include
and use.
