but it is recommended.
There is a slim chance that some files from the old version will be
incompatible. In the past old plugins for example might cause problems,
or an old Abiword.Profile might possibly cause Abiword to crash on
startup. From our point of view it is better to be safe than sorry
which is why we recommend people uninstall old versions first but so long
as you dont mind the small risk and think you will be able to sort out any
minor problems you might encounter then go a head.
I've installed new versions of Abiword directly over older version lots of
times but I hope you understand that it does make sense for us to
recommend against it. Try it and see!
