Using AbiWord 0.99.2 on KDE 2.2.2 on Qt 2.3 on XFree86 4.x on FreeBSD 4.5

What I can do is write/display Hebrew etc. text in KWord by going to and
setting settings:configure:encoding to UTF8 or similar. Success by using
any of four compatible TrueTypeFonts (arial, courier new, times new roman,
    bitstream cyberbit).

But AbiWord can't display anything other than Latin1 glyphs.
I can point AbiWord at my normal TrueType directory & it lists the fonts,
but can only display the latin1 glyphs, except for bitstream cyberbit,
which it can't display any glyphs from.
     Any ideas?
