    Sorry, but I do not understand this answer.
    Are you telling me that the document I provided is not
    valid XHTML? The W3C validator validates it.
    Although I am a just a user trying to be useful,
    not a programmer, I would be happy to read anythings
    reasonably accessible that would help me understand
    the issue.

    Looking at this from a user's perspective, I have a
    very simple document that validates as XHTML Basic
    but does not import correctly. This seems like a
    problem for AbiWord, although I accept that there
    may be a good reason for it.
