you are using microsoft windows, so use the charmap (Character Map)
program (abiwords insert symbol is very similar but a bit more basic).

Using version 0.7 on FreeBSD i can insert accented characters
from the Times New Roman font. I cant test the windows version at the moment,
but it sounds to me like a problem with windows so please file a bug
report and ill try to remember to verify it later and try and figure out
what the problem is.
