RPM reads the package information from rpm-database. If you want to uninstal
a package, you can't just delete the directory. You need to un-install using
rpm also, so that the rpm-db got update to. This will uninstall the package:

rpm -e package_name.

Try to get the currently "installed" abiword package using
rpm -q abiword.

uninstall that, and then install the abiword-gnome using rpm -ivh
package_name.rpm
