I checked my XF86Config file, and found that
        Load "type1"
was present in the "Module" Section.
Any other ideas?

I tried using 'xfontsel' to display the font AbiWord is complaining
about, and it causes the font dsplay portion of the window (the
bottom section) to freeze. By "freeze" I mean that the portion of
the window is not being redrawn (and artifacts of menus and other
windows remain). So, this leads me to believe that there is
definitely somethign wrong with rendering this font. Could it be the
font files themselves?

Also, I realize this list may no longer be appropriate for the
problem, so if someone has a referral to a more appropriate mailing
list or resource, please let me know.

Thanks,
Travis
