multiple columns universal?

Subject: multiple columns universal?

I just tried to use the multiple column feature to make a manual
copy of a magazine page appear the same as it did in the magazine.
When I did so, it changed to three column mode EVERYTHING, not just
the selected text. Even the title, subtitle, sub-subtitle, and the
post-title were dumped into the resulting three column mode. It
appears to me that multicolumn mode cannot be applied to selected
text. It seems that it's either the whole document, or none.

What gives? Is this its intended usage? Or will it eventually have
the ability to be applied to selected portions of text "within" the
document (I hope.)?

I have not upgraded for a while. So this may be a moot issue. (I'm
currently using v0.7.11 for windows.)
