Change the following lines in your ~/.Abisuite/AbiWord.Profile

        <Select
            scheme="_custom_"
            autosaveprefs="1"
            useenvlocale="1"
        />
Then add
        <Scheme
                name="_custom_"
                KeyBindings="emacs"
                KeyBindingsCycle="1"
                />
