It's probably off-topic, as some 0.7x version did display the
same behaviour as my new CVS-snapshot, but abiword is the only
app which does trigger this bug:

when I start abiword all goes well, and I finally see the
beautiful gnome-interface with icons and everything. then
I try typing something, and I see only the cursor moving
but no letters can be seen in the text-area. abiword does
only complain about a missing dictionary, but does work well
otherwise. then I click on the fonts-box and select Arial
as my new font. all does work until I type the first letter
in this new font, after that nothing does happen. neither
num-lock nor any other keyboard-indicator does work, the
ctrl-alt-backspace combination doesn't do anything at all
(it should exit X). my mouse-pointer doesn't move. the suspend
key on my computer does work, but the mouse doesn't wake the
computer up, only the keyboard does. and also the "shutdown 2 min"
I did type before starting abi does fail to shut down my computer,
so I have to hit the reset-key.

I suspect that the source of this crash is some mixed up
versions of my X-binaries (I remember copying individual
files from X336 over 335, and I suspect I did miss some
files), but I don't know how to find the error. Does anyone
know a trick how I could re-gain some control after the crash?
