Subject: locale warnings on 0.9.2

Downloaded and successfully installed the static tar of 0.9.2 on my RH6.2
system. When I start Abiword nothing happens and I get the following error
message:
Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C
Gdk-WARNING **: can not set locale modifiers
A cursory search of the User mailing list archives didn't turn up any hints.
What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it? (or should I stick with 0.7.14
which always ran fine?)
