Hi:

At my level of incompetance, I mostly unable to follow or understand the
discussion here, but this issue of fonts may be related to a problem I've
had -- and I'm curious if this too, will be resolved in the 1.0 release.

Because I am lazy, cheap, stupid (all the things my mother-in-law told my
wife about me), I like to set up Linux application servers and put cheap,
old, feeble, 486 boxes running Linux or FreeBSD as Xterminals on the
user's desks. Hey, at least it allows people to use KDE and StarOffice 5.1
on a 486sx with 8 MB ram. Same for Corel Wordperfect 8.0.

I understand completely that AbiWord is beta software, and that there are
tons of things to do before version 1.0 can be offered as a commercial
product. But right now, there are some inconvenient work-arounds required
to run AbiWord on Xterminals, related to the font paths.

So, my question is: Will the ability to change the fonts, when version
1.0 is released, allow AbiWord to operate across a network on Xterminals,
without the additional requirement of either installing AbiWord fonts on
the Xterminal, or mounting them as NFS files?

And, if not, I'd like to propose that ability as a needed feature to
compete with the likes of Sun and StarOffice. Their corporate strategy to
dominate the world with powerful application servers makes a certain
degree of sense; and to carve out a niche in that market, AbiWord could
stand to be more "network transparent."

For what it is worth, that's my stupid question and my 2 cents worth.
