A few hours ? 8-)
you really should learn to use the commandline-stuff ;-)
... like I told you before, no bashing intended.

nope :-(

"open with" is a KDE-feature I guess ?

no, possibly not.
did you save your abi-textfiles with the extension .abw ?
For example like the following files do :
[albi@onderste:~/.ABIWORD/AbiWord_CVS_170599/abi/test/wp]$ ls -la
total 99
drwxrwxr-x 3 albi albi 1024 May 17 22:00 .
drwxrwxr-x 4 albi albi 1024 May 17 22:00 ..
-rw-rw-r-- 1 albi albi 3071 Jan 26 21:16 Bazaar.abw
-rw-rw-r-- 1 albi albi 6218 Feb 9 18:41 BillOfRights.abw
There's a way to let .abw as a file-extension be opened by AbiWord as default
in KDE, (which I forgot or never used) maybe it's a nice question for you to
ask in the linux-newbie-list ?
Good luck, have fun!
