Fix resize race bug on unix if the zoom is set to page width. Also removed
lots\ of useless asserts. Fixes bugs 4945 and the assert adding header and
footers.

The race bug is fixed by keeping the horizontal scroll bar off if zoom is
set to page with or fit in screen. (No need to scroll horizontally if the
with is defined to fit on the screen by default.)
