Pat Lam's version of this advice (for the auto* build) worked fine.
    Thanks everyone.

Now, how do I set up so that I can run the binary that make produces
without doing make install? I have STABLE installed, but I need to run
HEAD as well. I have to use the same config options for both builds,
because I'm using symlinks to fit both trees on my harddrive.

    Thanks in advance.
