I don't see what this will gain us, though it would be trivial to implement.
Popular apps like netscape already do what I proposed, and I think that what
we're doing is correct. However, please convince me of why we should set *yet
another* environment variable if you think that it's the right thing to do.
I'm convinced that we already do too much magic joo-joo in our wrapper script
(in fact, i want to do away with the wrapper script, but that's for another
email..) and that adding onto that would be bad, esp. when I don't see the
benefits of adding another variable. Then again, it may just be that it's 10AM
on a Monday here in Philadelphia...
