Yes, the XFree server, or the FreeType font library that it uses,
handles TTF Unicode fonts nicely, you just need to specify iso-
10646-1 in the font's XLFD. TTF are not the a problem, but Type1
fonts are.
I have had a look at the CJK code earlier, but it has the enormous
advantage of being monospaced, so they can get quite easily
around the afm file.
