OK. This helps. I know understand where my problem was with the MacOS X
build. I get the same error while I don't have static build. But now
that you say this, I check and see that pspell is not linked dynamically
as I only have .a files. Time to make a patch for pspell. :-)

The bottom line from Dom: don't build statically with pspell.
