"AbiSpec" - Feature Specification for AbiWord

AbiSpec is a feature and specification database which is intended to make it easy to find, describe, track and comment on individual features of AbiWord. It will be continually updated as the project progresses to reflect the most recent understanding of how a feature works, and eventually, the status of each feature. The features in AbiSpec are targets, not hard commitments (like that actually has to be said in an Open Source project...).

Views

There are several ways to view the features:
  • Top-Down Document Style. This view reads more like a document and contains text explaining high level categories. Its useful for getting a top down picture of features. If you don't know what you are looking for, this view can provide overviews and context.
  • Bottom-Up Table Style. This view is really just an ordered list of features and is more useful for finding the latest information about a specific feature or set of features.
  • Feature Roadmap. This view presents features with milestones horizontally in a table without feature descriptions. Useful for comparing milestones against one another.

Milestones

We currently have 4 defined milestones for AbiWord. They are an attempt to group features in such a way that AbiWord will be able to create certain of types of documents at succeeding stages of development. Note that milestones are independent of the actual release numbers that will be associated with binary releases of AbiWord (i.e., M1 is not necessarily Release 1.0, although it could be).
